Falafel afar

A couple of pieces of toasted pita, and you’re good to go

Oded Rauvenpoor, owner of Falafel Bar on Elmwood Avenue, says he’s opening a second outpost, on Sheridan Drive in Amherst. The building, at 3689 Sheridan Drive, was formerly Bamboo House.

Rauvenpoor said he’s looking forward to offering the falafel and Mediterranean favorites from his shoebox-sized Elmwood store in Amherst, plus other dishes. He mentioned an Israeli dish, a breakfast comfort food, called shakshouka. It’s eggs cooked in tomato sauce, which sounds kind of tame.

But yogurt with eggplant and red peppers sounds a bit wan, too – until you encounter the specimen at Falafel Bar, pictured above.
